Restore File Associations for Visual Studio File Types

By Peter Bromberg

Have you found that double-clicking on a .csproj or .sln file from Windows Explorer doesn't work any longer? When you choose "Open With" from the Context Menu, is the "Always open" checkbox greyed out? Here's how to fix this.

Go into VS 2010 and click "Tools", Options, Environment, General, "Restore File Associations".

If that doesn't work, then:

1. Go to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\microsoft shared\MSEnv\VSLauncher.exe"
2. Set Properties->Compatibility->Run this program as an administrator.

NOTE: The "(x86)" in the path is only for 64-bit OS. Remove that part for 32-bit OS.

You should now be able to double-click on a Visual Studio file type and have Visual Studio open it.
