XmlHttpRequest Enable Cross Domain / Sub Domain Access

By Robbe Morris

Here's a quick tip for enabling cross domain or sub domain AJAX access.

If you have an intranet app or perhaps an admin section with a restricted group of users, you can enable cross domain / sub domain XmlHttpRequest access by doing the following:

1. Add your domains and sub domains to the list of trusted sites in Internet Explorer (Security Tab)
2. Then, in the Custom Level area (custom level button) scroll down the list until you find "Access data sources across domains" and enable it.

Your XmlHttpRequests will no longer get the "access is denied" message. This is not necessarily a good solution for sites require general public access.
