SQL Server - how to audit the select statement in sql server 2008

Hi Friends,

Please help me on this...
How to audit the select statement in sql server 2008... without using SQL Trace, Profiler and SQL Audit. As use of thses are hampring the DB performance.
Looking for another way it can be manually or any third part.

You could lock down access to the table and force the query(s) to go through stored procedures and do your own custom auditing.  Outside of that, I don't see a better option than the one's you've already mentioned.
